BrainMirror(tm) is a new software system designed to build upon and further extend research, education, and client-related work involving the brain and states of consciousness. It is a high-quality EEG (electroencephalograph) system that records, processes, and displays brainwaves in a manner especially suited to studying and recording states of consciousness. This is useful in a range of practices including meditation, healing, therapy, counseling, personal exploration, the arts, sports, and personal fitness. 

     BrainMirror consists of a 2-channel brainwave recorder designed specifically to display EEG session data using a Windows PC. While recording EEG, it is possible to see realtime spectral information, pause, resume, mark, annotate, and navigate back and forth through the records during or after the sessions. A variety of display modes are selectable including a bispectral filtered EEG display. This is an original design based on the general principles described by Maxwell Cade (1) (2-channels, real-time filtering with specific frequency bands, bispectral display, etc), (No equivalence to other specific systems is claimed). In addition to this display, the system provides advanced features such as live event marking, trend plots, spline-interpolated line plots, and 3-dimensional BrainScape(tm) displays selectable in a flexible and simple fashion. BrainMirror’s unique digital signal processing (DSP) methods show time as well as frequency in brain state changes and bring an unprecedented level of clarity, completeness, and understandability to computerized EEG brain/mind monitoring. All of the complexity, dynamics, and nonlinearities in the EEG are clearly revealed, recorded, and documented in real time.

     This software program and related educational opportunities will be of interest to anyone concerned with mental states, high performance, creativity, or mind fitness. In contrast to more conventional EEG training devices, this is a recording and reviewing system designed to accurately reflect (mirror) the brain state, as revealed by the EEG, and is not intended for neurofeedback. It can be used for research, education, documenting sessions, later review, recording personal progress, or any application requiring EEG recordings in relation to real-time brain dynamics, working with the content of consciousness, or observing brain states..

It also addresses the needs of those who have been seeking an efficient way to pursue EEG related studies, but have not had a low-cost, versatile, Windows-based system to choose from. The BrainMirror system currently runs as third-party software on the BrainMaster 2E module, operating at 244 samples per second, providing a 2-channel EEG with professional performance and accuracy.
